Among Jews, the practice of covering the head is a way to show reverence, a way of physically making a distinction between the holy and the ordinary. The yarmulke (Yiddish) or kippah (Hebrew) is not the only acceptable head covering, but it has become a widely recognized way of Jewish identity.
Bet Alef member Karyn King designs and hand crochets kippot (plural of kippah), primarily out of 100% cotton with sparkling accents of metallic thread. Each custom kippah is $60 for adults and $30 for children under 10. A portion of the purchase price is donated to Bet Alef. To see examples and place an order, please visit KippahMaker.com. |
