Rabbi Waskow at March

Since the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., prophetic voices working to move public opinion toward more inclusive and compassionate ways of being in America have been few and far between. With the challenges our society and our world are facing in this century, we, and our planet, are in dire need for such voices to be heard again.

Rabbis Arthur Waskow and Phyllis Berman are such rare voices alive today; voices that relentlessly speak truth to power. Among many issues such as peacemaking among Abrahamic communities, combatting unjust and destructive concentrations of political and economic power, Rabbi Waskow especially – and the Shalom Center he leads – has made it his top priority to address the Global Climate Crisis. Rabbi Waskow writes, protests, blogs and teaches around the country about what he calls not Global Warming but Global Scorching. He draws on Biblical and other faith-based texts to teach about shaping a sustainable global community, denouncing corporate greed, and working with those most vulnerable and most hurt by the unfolding of our climate crisis.

Beginning with Shabbat services on Friday night, and continuing through Sunday afternoon, join us for an inspiring weekend of spirituality-in-action to discover together uplifting and hopeful solutions to an issue that touches all of us. Our inspirational guests will source from faith-based texts the messages and teachings we can draw from to guide us in creating together a sustainable global community and environment.
