Across all faith traditions, all cultures, and all levels of belief or non-belief, one yearning unites us: the deep desire to make things better, to make a difference, to live a life of purpose. But, how do we do that?
Bet Alef Meditative Synagogue welcomes Bernie Glassman, Jewish Zen Master and founder of the Zen Peacemakers. World-renown pioneer in the American Zen movement , Bernie Glassman is a spiritual leader, published author, accomplished academic, and successful businessman with a PhD in Applied Mathematics. He has become a leading proponent of social engagement as spiritual practice. Mr. Glassman has been named one of the most creative forces in Western Buddhism, forging new paths, practices, liturgy and organizations to serve the people who fall between the cracks of society.

In our March 8th workshop Mr. Glassman will trace his evolution from his Jewish upbringing to the dharma hall to blighted urban streets, and lay out for us the practices and principles he has developed to teach service as spiritual action and to create sustainable, major service projects. He will share the insights, revelations, personalities and personal experiences that have influenced his life and development, and present some of his unique innovations, such as Bearing Witness Retreats, living on urban streets and gathering for a week at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Most importantly, he will talk about the future of socially engaged spiritual practice.
Come to listen, meditate, and participate in this critical conversation about making your life, a life that matters.
